“The Walking Dead”: Before They Were Stars

Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon
Norman Reedus is known as much for his early success as he is for his portrayal of Daryl Dixon. In 1999, Reedus got his big break when he portrayed the priest-avenging Murphy MacManus in The Boondock Saints. But even before acting, Reedus had his hands in several industries: he worked at a Harley-Davidson shop, he was an artist (painter, sculptor, photographer), and he modeled for designers like Prada, Levi’s, Lexus, and more. And we haven’t even mentioned his part in a 1994 Bjork video.

Danai Gurira as Michonne
Danai Gurira’s career before The Walking Dead is brief, but she’s packed a lot since 2004 when she got her first small role in Law & Order. Since then, Gurira scored close to a dozen bit roles (including one short arc on HBO’s Treme) and logging in several years in the New York theater scene. She accomplished all that, while graduating from Macalester College with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, before she got her first real break as the katana-wielding Michonne.

Melissa McBride as Carol
Melissa McBride began her acting career in 1991 when she appeared in several television commercials – her biggest campaign for sure, was when she was the national spokeswoman for Ford. She soon made her series television debut in a 1993 episode of Matlock, and later guest-starred in several other television drama series, including In the Heat of the NightAmerican GothicProfilerWalker, Texas Ranger – she even played two roles on Dawson’s Creek.
